Ladakh’s Karkitchoo Apple Exports Enter Dubai for the First Time
In a recent development in Ladakh’s Horticulture sector, the Union Territory’s Karkitchoo Apple has been exported to Dubai for the first time. The apple exports have been carried out from Kargil to Dubai. Notably, the one-metric shipment was organised by the Rangyul Organic Producer Company Limited (ROPCL), a farmer Producer Organisation (FPO) from Kargil. The facilitation support was provided by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) and the Lulu group.
The flagging-off ceremony occurred at the ROPCL cold storage unit, in which the Chairman of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil, Mohammad Jaffar Akhone, who rolled the Karkitchoo Apple Exports from Kargil to Dubai. Not only this, but he highlighted the potential of organic farming of apples, which could improve the income of Apple farmers and encouraged them to follow sustainable agricultural practices for Apple production.
About Karkitachoo Apples
Kakitchoo apples are the indigenous, organic apple variety from the Kargil district in Ladakh. These apples are grown at high-altitudes and share refreshing mountain sweetness, crisp texture along with being pest free without the use of artificial chemicals or waxes. Apart from Karkitchoo Apple, the other top premium Apple varieties in India are Kinnauri Apples from Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh, Ambri Apples from Kashmir valley, and Red Apples, grown in both Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
