India’s Food Grain Stocks Remain Strong, Says Shivraj Singh Chouhan
India’s food grain stocks remain sufficient with no shortage of essential commodities, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said while reaffirming the country’s strong food security position. Speaking during the launch of the SEHAT initiative, the minister stressed that India has enough rice, wheat, and reserve supplies to meet domestic demand and continue public welfare programs without disruption.
Chouhan stated that the government is closely monitoring agricultural production and maintaining adequate reserves to ensure stability in food availability across the country. He highlighted that India’s robust procurement system and improved agricultural output have helped maintain healthy stock levels despite global economic uncertainties and climate-related concerns.
The minister also noted that sufficient buffer stocks, rice reserves, wheat production, and food security measures are in place to support millions of beneficiaries under government welfare schemes. According to officials, these reserves play a critical role in controlling inflation and ensuring uninterrupted food distribution through the public distribution system.
India has consistently focused on strengthening its agricultural sector through policy reforms, modern farming techniques, and higher crop procurement. Experts believe the country’s stable food grain reserves will help protect consumers from supply shocks and price volatility in the coming months.
The statement comes at a time when several countries are facing food supply concerns due to geopolitical tensions, rising logistics costs, and climate disruptions. Analysts say India’s healthy grain reserves provide a major advantage in maintaining domestic stability and supporting vulnerable populations.
With adequate food grain stocks and strong agricultural output, the government remains confident in its ability to ensure food availability and sustain national welfare programs effectively.
