Why India’s Rubber Production Surged To 3.4 % In FY 2026 Let’s Find Out
Recently, India’s natural rubber production has seen a 3.4 per cent growth in FY26. The volumes have reached 9.05 lakh tonnes from 8.75 lakh tonnes in the previous year. Notably, Favourable climatic conditions in the major rubber-producing regions have contributed to improved productivity. Moreover, the rubber board further supported the production growth through initiatives like promotion of rain guarding and self-tapping, adoption of scientific agronomic practices, capacity-building and skill development programmes, and Execution of agricultural safeguarding and prompt disease management strategies.
Interestingly, India, the sixth largest natural rubber producer, remains an important position in the global rubber industry.. The 29th meeting of the Rubber Board Statistics Consultative Panel has assessed the performance of the Indian and global NR sector and deliberated in detail on major sectoral indicators, such as type-wise production, consumption, imports and exports. Not only this, but the assurance of a guaranteed price under the Rubber Production Incentive Scheme (RPIS) implemented by the Kerala Government also motivated the rubber growers to continue tapping activities. The rise in domestic prices has restored the interest of rubber growers in tapping activities and increased production efforts. Domestic prices have demonstrated relative stability during 2025-26, signalling a moderating trend and a narrowing gap between domestic and international rubber prices. Earlier, the domestic prices had increased sharply during 2024-25.
The NR demand in the country observed a growth of 1.2 per cent during FY26 over the previous year. The auto tyre sector, which accounted for nearly 64 per cent of the total NR consumption, recorded a reduction of 4.0 per cent during the year. On the contrary, the general rubber goods sector projected a robust growth during the same period.
