Moong Procurement Rises To 60% In Madhya Pradesh As Farmers End Protest

Madhya Pradesh govt. has increased procurement of Moong to 60% of farmers’ produce, addressing concerns raised by growers over inadequate government purchases under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) system. Notably, the Moong procurement decision has encouraged protesting farmers to withdraw their agitation, instantly bringing relief to Moong growers in the state.

Moreover, the higher procurement limit is expected to offer stronger market support for farmers during the harvesting season. With government agencies purchasing a larger share of produce, farmers may benefit from improved price stability and declined pressure to sell their crop at lower market rates.

Moreover, the move comes at a time when changes in moong prices have raised concerns among pulses farmers. Better procurement coverage can help in maintaining farmer confidence along with ensuring a steady supply of quality moong for consumers and the food processing sector.

Notably, India’s pulses sector plays a vital role in meeting domestic nutrition requirements, and Indian pulses, including moong, remain a significant source of protein for millions of households. The expansion of procurement operations is also expected to strengthen the supply chain for products like moong dal.

In addition, market experts believe that consistent government intervention through MSP-based procurement and improved demand management can support farmers along with balancing consumer needs. Increasing demand for moong from households and food industries further highlights the significance of maintaining adequate production and a stable supply.

The Madhya Pradesh government’s decision indicates efforts to address farmer concerns and enhance agricultural market support. Enhanced procurement mechanisms could encourage farmers to continue cultivating moong, contributing to the long-term growth of the pulses sector.
