Wheat Procurement in Madhya Pradesh Set at 100 Lakh MT for 2026–27 Amid Bumper Harvest
The Wheat procurement drive in Madhya Pradesh has been expanded as the state government sets a target of 100 lakh metric tonnes for the 2026–27 marketing season. Interestingly, this decision comes after receiving approval from the Centre for an additional 22 lakh metric tonnes, strengthening the overall procurement framework. The Wheat procurement strategy is intended to ensuring better Minimum Support Price (MSP) benefits for farmers across the state. Moreover, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav stated that the move will help provide stable income support to cultivators and improve market assurance during a period of strong production. This year’s procurement plan is being implemented in the backdrop of a bumper wheat harvest, which has increased the need for efficient storage and purchase mechanisms. Authorities are working to ensure that farmers face minimal distress sales and receive timely payments under the MSP system.
The expansion of Wheat procurement is also expected to strengthen the agricultural economy of Madhya Pradesh, which is one of India’s key wheat-producing states. By increasing procurement capacity, the government aims to enhance food grain availability in central reserves while supporting rural incomes. Officials believe that the higher procurement target will also improve supply chain efficiency and ensure smoother distribution for the Public Distribution System (PDS). This step reflects a broader effort to stabilize agricultural markets and protect farmer interests during high-yield seasons.
