Cotton Area Surpasses100 Lakh Hectares As Monsoon Boosts Sowing

India’s Cotton Area surpassed the 100 lakh hectare mark this season, which is supported by improved monsoon rainfall and favourable weather conditions in key producing states. The steady progress in sowing indicates growing optimism among farmers, with better soil moisture encouraging higher planting activity.

This expansion in Cotton Area is expected to boost the production prospects for the 2026–27 crop season. Moreover, states such as Maharashtra, Telangana, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Karnataka have reported healthy progress in field operations as rainfall enhanced after an uncertain start to the monsoon.

Higher Cotton Cultivation has been driven by favourable weather, improved water availability, and expectations of stable market prices. In addition, Farmers have increased the Cotton Sowing in key producing regions, expanding the overall Cotton Acreage compared with the early phase of the season.

But, According to experts, the crop’s performance will depend on consistent rainfall during the remaining growing period. Any prolonged dry spell or excessive rainfall could influence plant growth, yields, and crop quality. Pest attacks and changing weather patterns will also remain significant factors impacting production.

A healthy Cotton Crops outlook is vital for India’s textile industry, which relies on adequate raw material supplies to support domestic manufacturing and exports.
