Seafood Exports Surge 14.3% to $3.65 Billion in April-August
India’s seafood exports surged 14.3% year-on-year to $3.65 billion during April-August 2026. It has supported by stable demand from the United States, expanding access to European markets. Notably, the growth highlights improving prospects for the country’s seafood export market.
EU accounted for more than 15% of India’s seafood exports
In August alone, marine product exports jumped 27% year-on-year to around $760 million. The US continues to be India’s largest seafood export destination, with exporters reporting stable shipments in recent months. At the same time, the European Union has approved 21 additional Indian fishery establishments. It has taken the total number of EU-approved facilities to 625. The approvals are expected to support exports of aquaculture shrimp and cephalopods from states such as Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Odisha and Maharashtra.
The EU accounted for more than 15% of India’s seafood exports last fiscal year. It becomes an important market alongside the US and China. Belgium, Spain and Italy remain significant European destinations for Indian seafood. For every seafood exporter and the wider group of seafood exporters, the latest figures point to stronger market diversification. Moreover, India recorded a record $8.43 billion in marine product exports during FY26, with Europe, China and Southeast Asia contributing to the expansion.
