Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal Urges Indian Businesses to Go Global
Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal has appealed to Indian businesses to move beyond their comfort zones and take local products to international markets. His message indicates a strong emphasis on quality, innovation, competitiveness and the need to build products that can succeed on a global scale.
Notably, the push comes at a time when Indian exports are showing encouraging momentum. Moreover, India’s exports have reportedly increased nearly 15% between April and July, whereas Goyal has expressed confidence in achieving the country’s ambitious $1 trillion export target. For reaching that milestone, however, will require more Indian companies, particularly MSMEs, to expand their international footprint.
Significantly, for an MSME, exporting is more than simply selling a product abroad. Overseas sales generate foreign exchange, rise production demand and can create opportunities throughout the supply chain. Moreover, manufacturers, farmers, artisans, logistics providers and startups can all benefit as businesses gain access to larger customer bases. The bigger opportunity is to transform “Made in India” into “Made for the World.” Indian companies can boost their global position by enhancing product standards, adopting new technologies, investing in innovation and offering competitive pricing.
In addition, a stronger export ecosystem could also support investment, entrepreneurship and employment along with helping Indian businesses become more resilient and globally competitive. With its diverse manufacturing base, skilled workforce and growing entrepreneurial ecosystem, India has significant potential to turn domestic strengths into international demand. Therefore, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal’s call goes beyond increasing export figures. It is about building globally competitive Indian brands and making exports a stronger engine of long-term economic growth.
