BiofuelCircle Biomass Banks Strengthen Bioenergy Supply Chain
BiofuelCircle biomass banks are playing a crucial role in strengthening India’s bioenergy ecosystem, as the Pune-based clean-tech platform has set up over 70 such centres across the country. These biomass banks are designed to aggregate and store agricultural residue efficiently for use in biofuel production.
The initiative focuses on collecting crop stubble and other farm waste, which is often burned, contributing to pollution. By creating a structured system for biomass aggregation, BiofuelCircle is helping convert waste into valuable energy resources.
These centres not only improve the bioenergy supply chain but also provide farmers with an additional source of income. Instead of burning residues, farmers can now sell them, supporting both economic and environmental sustainability. The model also addresses the long-standing issue of stubble burning, which has been a major contributor to air pollution in many parts of India.
BiofuelCircle’s approach connects farmers directly with industries that require biomass for energy generation, ensuring efficient logistics and consistent supply. This integrated system supports India’s broader clean energy goals and transition toward renewable fuels.
In the long run, the expansion of BiofuelCircle biomass banks is expected to boost rural income, reduce environmental damage, and strengthen India’s position in sustainable bioenergy production.
