Delhi-Nigeria Agricultural Cooperation: Food Security Push
New Delhi is exploring stronger ties with Nigeria in agriculture, farmers’ welfare and food security following a high-level meeting at the Delhi Secretariat. On Monday, Delhi government minister Kapil Mishra met Nigeria’s Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Dr Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, and his delegation to discuss opportunities for collaboration under Delhi-Nigeria agricultural cooperation in the agricultural sector.
The discussions focused possible areas of knowledge sharing and development regarding agriculture. Moreover, officials from Delhi’s Development Department and the Delhi Agricultural Marketing Board (DAMB) presented details of the city’s agricultural schemes, farmer welfare initiatives, and the functioning of its agricultural marketing system.
Not only this, but DAMB explained the supply and marketing chain for grains, vegetables, fruits and flowers. The presentation outlined how farm produce moves from producers to markets and how mandis help in facilitating and regulating agricultural trade. Such mechanisms could provide useful insights for boosting food security partnerships and enhancing market access for farmers.
In addition, the meeting comes amid growing interest in agricultural development, efficient supply chains and sustainable food systems. Sharing practical experiences in farm marketing, producer support and agricultural trade could help India and Nigeria identify areas of mutual benefit.
The minister Mishra said there was immense potential for cooperation between India and Nigeria in agriculture and food security. The engagement signals an opportunity for deeper India-Nigeria agricultural ties, particularly in areas connected with farmers’ livelihoods, market infrastructure and food supply management. With agriculture playing a vital role in both economies, continued dialogue could pave the way for knowledge exchange, institutional cooperation and stronger strategies aimed at supporting farmers and enhancing food security.
