Heavy Rainfall in Tripura Damages Agricultural Land Across State

Relentless Heavy rainfall in Tripura has severely impacted the region’s farming sector, causing widespread destruction of crops and farmland. Over 6,000 hectares of agricultural land and horticultural land in Tripura have been damaged due to flooding, waterlogging, and soil erosion. The disaster has affected more than 32,000 farmers across the state, raising serious concerns for the agricultural sector.

According to preliminary estimates, crop losses have exceeded 21,000 metric tonnes, while financial damages are estimated at around ₹59 crore. The worst-hit region remains South Tripura, where standing crops and fertile fields have been extensively damaged due to continuous rainfall. The impact of Heavy rainfall in India has been particularly visible in northeastern states, with Tripura facing one of the most severe agricultural setbacks this season.

Officials have reported that the destruction of Agricultural land in Tripura has disrupted both food production and farmer livelihoods. In response, state authorities have activated emergency relief measures, including deploying response teams, improving drainage systems, and advising farmers on alternative cropping patterns to reduce future losses.

Efforts are underway to assess the full scale of damage and provide timely compensation to affected farmers. Experts warn that repeated extreme weather events could further strain the region’s Agricultural land in Tripura, highlighting the urgent need for climate-resilient farming practices.
