Seafood Market Pakistan Gains Access to Russian Exports

The global Seafood market is witnessing a significant shift as Pakistan secures official approval to begin exports to Russia, opening a new high-value trade route for its fisheries industry. This development marks a strategic expansion of Seafood exports, strengthening Pakistan’s presence in international seafood trade networks.

Under the new agreement, Russia has approved 16 Pakistani seafood processing plants, enabling direct shipments of fish and shrimp products to the Russian market for the first time. Industry officials estimate that pakistan seafood exports could gain up to $300 million in additional revenue through this newly opened corridor.

The move is seen as a breakthrough in diversifying export destinations beyond traditional buyers in China, the Gulf, Southeast Asia, Europe, and the US. Experts say the entry into seafood to Russia could also serve as a gateway to the wider Eurasian Economic Union, significantly expanding long-term trade opportunities.

According to the maritime ministry, Pakistan’s total seafood exports currently stand at around $500 million annually, and access to Russia could help nearly double this figure over time. The decision is expected to boost demand for shrimp, ribbon fish, and other marine products, while also encouraging investment in processing and compliance infrastructure.

Officials from the ministry of agriculture and maritime sector highlight that improving quality standards and cold-chain logistics will be key to fully capturing demand in the Seafood market. With rising global protein consumption, Pakistan’s entry into new destinations strengthens its competitive position in international fisheries trade.

Analysts believe this expansion signals a broader realignment in global seafood supply chains, where emerging exporters are tapping new regional markets to reduce dependence on saturated traditional buyers.
