Free Trade Agreements Drive India’s Export Push, Piyush Goyal Reviews Progress

India is deepening its focus on free trade agreements as part of a broader strategy to strengthen its position in global commerce. Recently, Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal recently held a high-level review meeting with senior officials and chief negotiators to review the progress of ongoing trade deals of India with other countries. The meeting evaluated the status of various Free Trade agreements of India and explored ways to improve the country’s export competitiveness. Not only this, but officials also discussed strategies to enhance market access and streamline negotiations for upcoming deals.

Free Trade Agreements: Strengthening India’s Global Trade Footprint

The country has been actively expanding its network of Free trade agreements signed by India, which aim to tap into new markets and boost Indian exports. These agreements play a significant role in decreasing tariffs, cushioning trade barriers, and enhancing bilateral economic ties. In addition, the government is emphasising aligning free trade agreements with India and world markets with its long-term export goals. Moreover, policymakers aim to increase India’s share in global exports and achieve ambitious trade targets by leveraging the free trade agreements of India with other countries

Focus on Export Growth Strategy

During the meeting, Piyush Goyal focused on the need for a coordinated approach between negotiators and industry stakeholders. Furthermore, the goal is to ensure that free trade agreements translate into tangible benefits for exporters in the sectors.

India’s proactive trade policy reflects its intent to become a major global export hub. The country’s endeavours to position itself to capitalise on shifting global supply chains with multiple FTAs under negotiation and review.
