Indonesia Sulawesi July cocoa exports up 50 pct

Cocoa bean exports from Indonesia's main growing island of Sulawesi rose 50 percent to 44,552.08 tonnes in July, from 29,724.61 tonnes a year ago due to higher purchase and stocks. July exports also surged 71 percent from 25,990.4 tonnes shipped out in June.
Ivorian cocoa supply hit by poor quality-exporters

Poor quality capped the amount of cocoa reaching shipping docks in top grower Ivory Coast last week, widening the year-on-year supply deficit to nearly 2 percent. Some 6,000 tonnes reached the West African nation's two ports between July 19 and July 25, bringing arrivals volumes since the start of the season in October to about 1,082,000 tonnes.
Vietnam aims for 108,000 tonnes cocoa by 2015-report

Vietnam plans a major boost to its cocoa industry, aiming for annual output of 108,000 tonnes of the commodity by 2015.The Agriculture Ministry has asked experts to draw up a plan to plant 60,000 hectares (148,300 acres) by 2015 with a yield of 1.8 tonnes per hectare.
Cocoa hits 21-year high

Cocoa in London advanced to the highest price in at least 21 year on signs a supply shortfall has crimped the availability of the beans. Cocoa for July delivery rose, or 1.3 per cent, to £2,584 ($3,791) a tone on the Liffe exchange in London at 9:48 a.m. local time. Cocoa for July delivery gained 0.5 per cent, to $3,064 a tone on ICE Futures US in New York. White sugar for August delivery was little changed at $458.90 a tone on Liffe. Robusta coffee for July delivery slid $6 to $1,340 a tone on Liffe.
Nigerian cocoa growers worry about govt neglect

High cocoa prices over the last year have encouraged Nigerian growers to boost output, but many fear the government's neglect of the sector may scuttle their efforts.These fears are being raised by the Cocoa Association of Nigeria (CAN). Former President Olusegun Obasanjo launched an ambitious programme in 2005 to raise annual production to over 600,000 tonnes by 2008, which would mean Nigeria rivalling Ghana as the world's number two grower.
ICCO raises '09/10 cocoa deficit estimate

The International Cocoa Organization (ICCO) revised its 2009/10 deficit estimate sharply higher due to stronger-than-expected demand.It is being predicted that the global cocoa deficit would stand at 70,000 tonnes, having previously estimated in March, before release of North American and European first-quarter grindings data, that it would be 18,000 tonnes.
Indonesia says no plans to postpone cocoa export tax

Indonesia has no plans to suspend an export tax on cocoa beans introduced on April 1.Indonesia, the world's third-largest producer of cocoa, hopes the tax will boost domestic grinding and produce higher value product, but exporters fear it could also disrupt sales.
Nigerian cocoa exports rise 8.3 pct in Jan –agency

Nigeria's cocoa exports rose 8.3 percent to 32,591 tonnes in January from the same month of the previous season.The increase in exports from the world's number 4 cocoa grower in January was consistent with the trend since the start of the 2009/10 season in October.

Cocoa bean exports from Indonesia's main growing island of Sulawesi rose 58.5 percent in March from a year ago as exporters rushed to ship before an export tax became effective in April.Exporters shipped 18,465.88 tonnes in March from 11,648.57 tonnes in the same month a year ago.
