China has issued its first batch of coal export quotas for 2010 at 25.5 million tonnes, expected to account for about half of total quotas for the year. China's top two coal exporters, Shenhua Group and China National Coal Group, each received export quotas of 10.45 million tonnes.

China's coal demand is expected to grow 4 to 6 percent in 2010 from this year's 3.17 billion tonnes.The expetrs forecast growth of 300 million tonnes in coal production capacity next year, the paper said. Some regions including the central provinces of Hubei, Hunan and Jiangxi and parts of northern and eastern China have been suffering from tight coal supply recently, which may continue into the first quarter next year.

MMTC floats tender to buy coal

MMTC floated a tender to buy 12.5 million tones (MT) of imported steam coal in 2009-10 to meet requirements of NTPC’s various power plants, a notice on the company website said. The bidding will end at 11.30 IST on September 16, and bids will be opened after the deadline.
COAL: Indian buyers re-emerge

Indian end-users have re-emerged with a rash of tenders for coal for delivery between September and the balance of the year. Indian state buying entity MMTC, which buys coal on behalf of many regional state power plants, will re-issue a revised tender for 12.5 million tonnes any day now.
